INTRODUCTION:

The Last Supper is one of the most significant events in the life of Jesus, as it marks the institution of the Lord’s Supper and the beginning of His journey to the cross. However, this sacred moment is also overshadowed by the betrayal of Judas, one of Jesus’ own disciples. As we study the Last Supper and the betrayal, we will explore the deep theological and personal implications of these events for our faith and our relationship with Christ.

OPEN IT:

Have you ever experienced a significant betrayal in your life, either by a close friend, family member, or someone you trusted? How did this experience impact you emotionally and spiritually, and what did you learn about forgiveness and grace through that process?

DIG INTO IT:

1. Read Luke 22:7-20, which describes the preparation and institution of the Lord’s Supper. What is the significance of Jesus’ words and actions in establishing this new covenant meal, and how does it relate to the Passover tradition?

REFLECT ON IT:

1. The institution of the Lord’s Supper reminds us of the new covenant established through Jesus’ body and blood. How can you approach this time of remembrance with greater reverence, gratitude, and self-examination, allowing it to deepen your communion with Christ and His body?

PRAY ABOUT IT:

Gracious Heavenly Father, as we reflect on the events of the Last Supper and the betrayal, we are humbled by Your Son’s sacrifice and the depth of His love for us. Thank You for establishing the new covenant through Jesus’ body and blood, and for inviting us to participate in this sacred meal. May we approach the Lord’s Supper with reverence, gratitude, and a sincere desire to commune with You and Your Son. Forgive us for the times when we have betrayed Jesus through our sins, and grant us the grace to guard our hearts against temptation and deception. 1. Jesus’ encounters with the marginalized challenge us to examine our own attitudes and biases. In what ways might you need to grow in compassion and acceptance toward those who are different from you or who are considered outcasts by society?
