April 2025 Study #1
Small Group Bible Study: 2 Peter 3:1-9
Open It:
Icebreaker Question: Have you ever been frustrated by something taking much longer than expected? How did you handle the wait?
Dig Into It:
Peter begins by reminding believers of the predictions of the prophets and the command given by the Lord and Savior through the apostles (2 Peter 3:1-2). Why is it important to recall and adhere to these teachings, especially in the context of the challenges and skepticism that believers face?
He addresses the issue of scoffers who question the promise of Christ’s return, mocking the apparent delay by saying, "Where is the coming he promised?" (2 Peter 3:3-4). How does skepticism from others challenge your faith, and how should you respond?
Peter explains that scoffers deliberately forget that by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed (2 Peter 3:5). What role does 'deliberate forgetting' play in skepticism, and how can believers counteract this mindset?
The text emphasizes that the same word that created the heavens and the earth has reserved the ungodly for judgment (2 Peter 3:7). How does understanding God’s control over creation and judgment impact our view of His promises?
Peter clarifies that God is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:8-9). How does this perspective shift our understanding of divine timing and the apparent delay in Christ’s return?
Reflect On It:
How do you maintain trust in God’s promises when faced with doubts or mockery about beliefs such as Christ's return?
In what ways can you help reinforce the memory of God's past actions and promises within your community?
Discuss how you can apply the understanding of God’s patience and desire for repentance in your personal interactions, especially with those who are skeptical.
How does recognizing that God’s timing is different from ours help you in your spiritual or personal life?
Consider ways you can cultivate patience and readiness while waiting for the fulfillment of God’s promises.
Pray About It:
Heavenly Father, remind us of the truth embedded in Your Word and the teachings passed down from Your prophets and apostles. Help us to stand firm against skepticism and to patiently await Your promises with confidence. Teach us to appreciate Your patience as an opportunity for salvation for more people. Keep our faith strong and our hearts steady, focused on Your eternal perspective rather than our temporal concerns. May we live each day in anticipation of Christ’s return, committed to spreading Your love and truth. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
