January 2026 Study #1
Jochebed — Exodus 2:1-10
OPEN IT
Think of a time when you had to protect someone you loved from danger. What risks did you take, and how did you feel?
DIG INTO IT
Read Exodus 2:1-10
What action did Jochebed take to protect her son, and why (v. 2-3)?
How did Jochebed arrange for her daughter to be involved in the plan (v. 4, 7-8)?
What unexpected opportunity did Jochebed receive as a result of her actions (v. 8-9)?
How does the passage describe the eventual outcome for the child (v. 10)?
Although not named in this passage, what do we learn about Jochebed’s character from her actions?
REFLECT ON IT
How does Jochebed’s courage and creativity in protecting her son challenge or inspire your own approach to difficult situations?
In what ways can you relate to Jochebed’s desire to protect her child in the face of danger?
How might Jochebed’s story encourage those who feel powerless in the face of unjust systems or authorities?
What does this passage teach us about trusting God’s providence even in dire circumstances?
How can Jochebed’s example inspire us to act with faith and ingenuity when facing seemingly impossible challenges?
PRAY ABOUT IT
Thank God for His protection and providence in our lives. Ask for courage to act faithfully in difficult situations. Pray for wisdom to recognize and seize unexpected opportunities that God may provide.
