May 2025 Study #1
Small Group Bible Study: Jonah 3:1-10
Open It:
Icebreaker Question: Have you ever been given a second chance at something important? How did that opportunity change your perspective or behavior?
Dig Into It:
Jonah 3:1-2 – The word of the Lord comes to Jonah a second time. What does this reveal about God's character and His mission for Jonah, despite his previous disobedience?
Jonah 3:3-4 – Jonah finally obeys and proclaims God's message in Nineveh. How does the simplicity and directness of his message emphasize God's authority and urgency?
Jonah 3:5 – The people of Nineveh respond with belief and immediate repentance. Why is their response so striking, considering Nineveh's reputation?
Jonah 3:6-8 – The king of Nineveh joins in the repentance and calls for a city-wide fast and turning from evil. What role does leadership play in communal repentance and spiritual renewal?
Jonah 3:9-10 – God sees their repentance and relents from sending disaster. How does this moment reveal the relationship between divine justice and divine mercy?
Reflect On It:
Have you ever ignored God's direction in your life and been given another chance? How did you respond the second time?
Jonah obeyed reluctantly, but God still used him. How does this encourage you when your obedience isn’t perfect or your attitude needs adjustment?
The Ninevites responded immediately to God’s warning. How responsive are you to conviction from God, whether through Scripture, people, or circumstances?
The king humbled himself publicly and led others to do the same. How can you be a leader of repentance and humility in your own sphere of influence?
God’s willingness to relent when people repent is seen throughout Scripture. How does this affect your understanding of God’s mercy and your willingness to repent?
Pray About It:
Merciful Father, thank You for being a God of second chances and undeserved grace. Help us to hear and respond to Your voice with urgency and humility. Teach us to be sensitive to Your conviction and quick to turn from our sin. May our lives reflect the repentance and obedience You desire, and may we lead others to do the same. Thank You for the mercy You show to all who truly seek You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
